Blick

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

I found the picture beneath in the Blick while waiting in a cafĂ©. The big picture shows Prince Charles looking through a night vision device. The describing text mentions that Charles wasn’t surprised that he didn’t see anything but darkness and only after the removal of the cap it work.
Sorry, but this is just Bullshit!
Normal night vision glasses work by daylight with the cap on. Because they have a little whole in the middle and that is just sufficient to test the device. Furthermore most night vision glasses will get damaged if used by daylight without the cap.

But my guess is that this columnist remembered the picture of George Bush and thought it is a funny story. But why be surprised about the profound research by Blick. ;-) Bush glasses

Ps: I did not link to Blick because it is not worth it! :-D

Back from holiday

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Back to work again. I have been in holidays for two weeks. The first week I was in Tschiertschen a little town above Chur. Together with 8 other friends I stayed in a little house in the middle of the ski region. The hardest part was the first day when we had to drag up all our stuff we needed. Of course we had to cook for ourselves. Finally I look back to a very cool and entertaining week. TNT 4 ever! ;-)

The second weekend I joined a “Tourenlager” on the Simplon pass that is a camp where you walk up the hill day for day to ski it down afterwards. It was not as relaxing as the first week but therefore more fulfilling. What a satisfying moment when I reached a mountain peak. The great view was overwhelming. Especially with the excellent weather conditions we had last week. Speciall thanks to Chrisitan without him I would not have known from this camp and even bigger thanks go to Roli who organized the whole camp! If I have the time there is no doubt I will go again…
Maybe some people who where with me in this camp will read this. If you do so please leave a comment ;-) Thanks to all for the great time!

Unfortunately after arriving at home I got sick and so did Christian. Maybe there was something in the food or we simple cached the same virus.
Right now I am building a site with the impressions from this camp… As soon as it is online I will post it here!

It doesn`t take a hero

Friday, February 1st, 2008

This is the title of the book I just read. It is an autobiography from H. Norman Schwarzkopf the leader of the the Gulf War with the famous Operation Desert Storm in Iraq (1991).

I was surprised what interesting story this man has to tell. A nice piece of information for Swiss people: he went to school in Geneva. I liked the parts where he wrote about leadership, honesty, loyalty and the welfare of his soldiers. In this book he tells his side of the view, especially the differences between Vietnam and the gulf ware. The USA army did several failures in Vietnam and Schwarzkopf tried to do it better. What he finally accomplished. It doesnt take a hero

Another exciting part of the book shows how he managed to pull the strings between the coalition (USA, Great Britain, France, eastern troops) and the politics.
