Tapering for a marathon

Friday, October 29th, 2010

This week, I am tapering for a marathon this weekend. This means less training and more free time.
As a logical conclusion I spend some amount of this free time playing flash games. Here are three puzzle/thinking games which I really enjoyed :-)

The Company Of Myself

This game has some similarities with Chronotron. You have to interact with yourself to solve problems, except that this time it is not based on a time machine. Even though I like Chronotron better, I think this game has some interesting puzzles!

Red Remover
The idea of this game is very simple. There are different shapes in the colors red/green/blue. Remove the red, keep the green, and blue doesn’t matter. The trick with that is that there is gravity and things can fall out of the screen. So be wise when clicking on the read shapes. The interesting part about this game is that you can unlock features to play the same levels in a more challenging mode. This makes the game a lot more fun and challenging!

Take Something literally

I think this game even needs less explanation. But whereas the last two games also required some skill, this puzzle just needs brain power.
Or as the creator puts it:
Just use your brain and all your environment :).

Have fun =)

Giving up FarmVille

Friday, March 5th, 2010

I guess everybody has its own story how or why he got started with FarmVille. I still claim that I didn’t do it out of free will, but that is another story. Today, I like to write about the ending of this story…

After investing (aka wasting?) an awful amount of time in this game. I realized that it is not worth it. Especially, since I don’t perceive playing it as fun, but still I was coming back again and again…

So why did I come back? I always had goals, like getting all the ribbons, catching up with the level of a friend and so on. But still doing so is quite painful and it needs a lot of clicking to achieve anything on FarmVille. Amy once made an observation: “You look bored when you play FarmVille”. The thing which surprises me about this game is that it is an online game but is missing several social aspects which could make it much more fun.

Admittedly, I didn’t work in the last couple of weeks and had therefore some slack time. But in the future I want to spend this time doing something else…

Amy and I decided that this Sunday is going to be our last FarmVille day!
Someone else who wants to commit to that?

New ideas in games

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

I had a phase were I played many flash games and also blogged about several of them. I haven’t been playing for a while. Recently I tried out some new flash games and was amazed by some of the ideas. If you like flash games I recommend to try the following three:

Neon rider is a 2D racing game where you have to drive from point A to B. But the interesting aspect of this game is that there are different colors of lines to ride on. The player can change the color of the bike and according to this color the player will use a different path. These means that besides the driving skills there is a second thing you have to watch out for…

This is the only level
This is the only level too
These are two small flash games, which have only one level. But they include several stages for each level. The level is really simple and has a simple path to solve it. The interesting aspect is that each stage there is something different. You can’t jump, keys are inverted, invisible walls… etc.
This means in each stage you have to figure out what the trick is to beat it. Sometimes, you can guess it from the name of the stage. I like this game because it is so simple but still really interesting.

Closure has one simple underlying rule: “What you don’t see doesn’t exist”. Each level is dark and there are lights which allow you to walk through around. If you walk outside the light up area you will fall even there is supposed to be a path. The goal is to find the door in each level. To solve the level it is necessary to use the “darkness” as a mean to make your way to walls and other obstacles.
Thanks to Michael for telling me about this game.

Have fun playing… and let me know what you think of them!

Sneeze

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

Sneeze is a funny game. The game is really simple you sneeze once and have to infect the target percentage for each level.
The interesting part about this game is that the first version was released before the swine flu, but apparently not many played it then. Together with the swine flu this game became much more popular.

Unfortunatley, none of us were able to finish the last level… :(

Sling

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

Sling is another flash game which I finished. In this game you have to maneuver a green slimy creature to save their world. In each level you have to touch all the grey spots and turn them into green, once this is done a vortex opens and you can sling yourself into it to go to the next level. It’s a funny and addictive game.
As you can see on the screen I not just finished it, I even made it to the bonus level (gold time extra bonus). After mastering the bonus level I got in the same bonus level again. I wonder if this is an endless loop to make more points? =)

Ice Breaker

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

Another cool flash game:

Ice Breaker

The “only” thing you need to do is free some Viking friends from the ice. To do so you have to cut them out.
Unfortunately, you can only make straight cuts. To successfully end a level all Vikings should end up in the boat.

Have fun…

btw: I finished it :-)

Chasm

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

A funny and short flash puzzle solver game, took me something over an hour to figure it out. :-)

Chasm

Have fun…

Relict 3: VikingDefense

Sunday, February 1st, 2009
VikingDefense is another flash game I finished. It is the follow up of Canyon Defense, read more.
A nice game! Definitely worth playing…
Have fun and let me know if you finished it :-)
Viking Defense

Magic Pen

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Yeah! Another cool flash game! :-D

When I first started this game I thought this is a game for children, but beware it look just like it! After a few levels the game is getting difficult. Your task is to move an object (circle or quad) to the red flags. MagicPen

To solve this task you have to draw objects with the magic pen which move the object forward. First you will feel like in a painting class but soon your engineering skills are in demand.

Thanks to Pascal for sending me this link! ;-)

Portal Flash Game

Thursday, June 19th, 2008
As I mentioned before, I love to play flash games which demand mental work. Therefore I will write about another cool flash game which I played through. ;-) It is called Portal: The Flash Version. The Last Level

Interesting about this one is that it has a big brother from Valve (The producer of Half-Life). It is also called Portal and it has the same game idea as the flash version. The only difference it is in 3D with the Half-Life graphic engine (like an ego shooter).

The goal of this game is to reach the exit of each level. But to reach there are some obstacles to master.
But before I start explaining all the details watch the trailer.

btw: I am really thinking about buying the big brother!
